Details of organisation: GapAid is a newly formed charity addressing some of the issues related to the fast-growing gap year experience that is becoming a rite of passage for so many young people. Our aim is to ensure the safety of travellers whilst on their travels by empowering them with relevant and detailed information and teaching them to be more aware of the cultural, educational and environmental issues associated with the country they have chosen to travel in. GapAid aims to cultivate a generation of responsible travellers.
Details of internship(s): GapAid is looking for interns who are flexible, able to work on their own initiative, passionate about travelling, good at communicating with young people and have plenty of energy, enthusiasm and ideas. You will have the opportunity to work in many areas, but we are particularly looking for someone to help develop the social networking side of the website and create a school education package. You may also be involved in setting up the student ambassadors scheme. There will be opportunities to help deliver our message at schools and also to attend other meetings related to development of the charity and new projects.
Additional information: GapAid hopes that over the next year we might receive the funds to start employing some additional team members - as an intern with GapAid this will put you at a distinct advantage when it comes to recruiting for these positions.

Details of organisation: Big Wide Talk is an independent, uniquely skilled organisation that reaches out to and speaks with children, parents and practitioners where they live and work, strategically connecting them to government. We are committed to documenting debate about children’s lives, regardless of race, religion, politics or gender and to raising awareness about inequality and the ways in which it can be redressed. We are a small, high skill organisation pushing the boundaries of public service and our practice is founded in participative action research and uses new technologies intelligently.
Details of internship(s): Big Wide Talk has opportunities for committed interns, who will be supported to assist with all aspects of our work. The experience will be valuable for those interested in innovation, the scope of new technologies, the technologies themselves, learning, public service planning and many other areas.The Easter placement will be for 1 month, split between Bristol and Cambridge. Our Theatre of Learning event (please see the website for more details) will run in Bristol, with follow up work at our offices in Cambridge.
Additional information: Big Wide Talk is also seeking an intelligent web programmer with Open Source and Drupal-friendly skills. Through the work that we do, we are helping such organisations to build their capacity to deliver quality youth work. Our mission is to work with our members from voluntary and community organisations to build thriving communities and sustainable networks that help all young people achieve their potential.
Details of internship(s): Interns can carry out a range of work with NCVYS, depending on your particular interest areas. These include:
• Work to help us develop policy information for our members and responses to government
• Helping run events and activities for our national youth forum, ENVOY
• Writing and developing resources and information packs for our members
• Involvement in marketing activities – helping us to market our work to our members and others.

Details of organisation: Cambridge Cyrenians is a registered charity, founded in 1970. Set up with the aim of offering a real alternative to homelessness, Cambridge Cyrenians now provide a range of accommodation and support services for homeless people. Cambridge Cyrenians have been providing accommodation and support to local, single homeless men and women for over 30 years. Since 1991 we have also been providing a specialist mental health outreach service to homeless people.
Details of internship(s): Interns will be involved in a number of projects, which may include:
• Helping to plan the promotion of a book about the organisation’s history, which is in the process of being produced
• Marketing vegetables from the allotment and trees from the tree nursery, set up and run by older homeless and ex-homeless people
• Marketing the ceramics workshop and pottery products
• Working with others on a project to grow plants for a stand at the Chelsea Flower Show, in conjunction with the Eden project
• Assisting if necessary with the website as it is re-launched

Details of organisation: ROCC improves the lives of people requiring support by providing training, information, consultancy, research and representation to purchasers, commissioners and providers of housing, care and support. Originally the Resettlement of Offenders Co-ordinating Committee, ROCC was established in 1975 as an integral part of Hampshire Probation Service. The breadth of ROCC’s work extended rapidly to include work with housing organisations providing for a wide range of client groups and in 1996 ROCC became an independent organisation and took charitable status. Now, ROCC has membership in excess of 110 organisations and this continues to grow as the organisation further develops its information and advice, training and consultancy services.
