Journalism

All major newspapers have environmental sections and reporters specialising in social issues. There are also a host of publications which explicitly focus on trying to create positive change, including:

• The Ecologist - a non-profit environmental magazine. Offer internships.
• Mediawise - a charity providing advice, information, research and training on media ethics.
• New Internationalist – “renowned for its radical, campaigning stance on a range of world issues, from the cynical marketing of babymilk in the Majority World to human rights in Burma.” Advertise job vacancies on their website.
• Peace News - promotes antimilitarist attitudes. They only have a small staff, but accepts articles submitted at any time on a voluntary basis.
• Red Pepper – promotes radical social and environmental change. They don’t pay writers, but it can be a good place to get experience.
• Reporters Without Borders - an organisation which fights for press freedom.
