Last week we were thrilled to launch our 2019-20 Impact Report, reflecting on how we engaged 1800+ students across our network, with 1129 community participants involved in 104 projects across our Hub network in Bristol, Cambridge, Kingston, Southampton and Winchester.
We wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on bringing the report together, our thoughts on 2019-20, and what parts of the report we’re most proud of.
Bringing together the report
We changed up our Impact Report design for this year, and it’s also the longest in length the report has ever been. With an end of January release, it was vital for us that the report reflected what we wanted to project: vibrancy, positive stories and how we’ve stuck to our values (and all important orange colour scheme) during the pandemic.
Prior to lockdown, we had gotten lots of photos of our volunteers in action, and it was great to be able to showcase these images in our report. We also had a variety of case studies, including alumni case studies for the first time ever.
Our thoughts on 2019-20
2019-20 was about learning to adapt for us at Student Hubs, with many of our programmes taking on new lives as virtual offerings, which has certainly enhanced the accessibility of our activities. It also meant listening more than ever to what our communities needed, and being flexible with what support could look like as part of our delivery in our university communities.
2019-20 was a challenging year, but we rose to the occasion and found ourselves better for it, going in directions and piloting a virtual offering which may have taken us years to naturally get to otherwise.
What we’re most proud of
There are two features this year that we’re particularly proud of which you can find in our Impact Report: our Covid-19 response for students and communities and our alumni outcomes. In our graduate impact survey, we found that 94% of our alumni respondents feel their involvement with Student Hubs helped them to develop key skills such as leadership, teamworking and communication and 78% of respondents feel their involvement in Hub activities helped them gain their current job.
We also have lots of spotlights and features in this year’s report, such as on Service Learning (see blogs 1 and 2 on the topic from the summer), our Plus Provision delivered by Southampton Hub, and the Social Innovation Programme (SIP).
