We are delighted to announce that Student Hubs made it onto The Escape 100, an annual campaign that recognises organisations that care about its employees and the planet, revealing the top 100 organisations to work for in 2021.
The campaign was created by Escape the City, a platform that connects its global community of purpose-driven jobseekers with mission-led employers. The list comprises a diverse range of organisations, varying in size, industry, and location, but all united as purpose-led organisations that exist to solve real world problems. The list marks excellence in a number of key areas including innovation, impact, environmental concern, and most importantly, employee engagement. This year, 8000 organisations were assessed against six key criteria, and reviewed by their employees to identify the top 100.
We are thrilled to be recognised alongside incredible organisations this year, ranking at 77. Lauren Welch, the Escape the City Campaigns & Partnership Lead, said: “With some of the highest people scores in the competition, it’s clear Student Hubs is a great place to work. The team told us of a supportive and caring atmosphere, particularly given the events of the last 12 months. We’re thrilled to have Student Hubs as part of the Escape 100 this year!”
Our staff culture
Externally our vision and mission is focused on supporting students to be involved in social and environmental challenges throughout their time at university, supporting them to become active citizens for life, but we see that extending to our staff team too. We know that when we support our staff to thrive at work, they’re better able to support students and the communities we work with. Everyone who has worked at Student Hubs in the past decade is a unique and passionate individual that we are honoured to have worked with.
We are also proud of the culture and environment we have created in partnership with our team. This is a core strength of our organisation, and we’ve intentionally focused on continual improvement and development in this area. During the past year, supporting our team throughout the ongoing pandemic, our culture and support for our team have been put to the test and has come out stronger. Our person-centred approach, coupled with policies to give autonomy and which prioritises individual wellbeing, means our team has been able to face extended lockdowns and continued to deliver high quality programmes continuously since March 2020.
As part of the Escape the City 100, our staff were asked about their experience working at Student Hubs, with comments from our team including:
“Working at SH feels like working within a family. They really care about your development and your happiness at work, and do not expense your wellbeing in the name of outputs or productivity. They help you deliver the best quality work because they help develop and define the best quality, empowered and passionate you.”
“I have been working at Student Hubs since September 2019, and I am so grateful that I entered such a supportive environment after I graduated. The support I have received, both before and during the pandemic, has been second to none. The organisation strongly cares about you as an individual, supporting your growth and development not only in your role but also your long term career. The staff team are so friendly and genuine with each other, you always feel like you can bring your whole self to work.”
