October Update: Projects Getting Started and Making Plans
October, you’ve been a busy one! The Southampton Hub staff team, committee and our sub-committees have been doing so much to get all of our volunteering projects ready to start next month. We’ve had such a great time meeting all of our new volunteers at events, and we can’t wait to get you started next month.
Selection and training for projects:
October is always crazy for us as we do so much to get all of our fantastic volunteers selected for projects, trained up, DBS checked when needed, and ready to be inducted into their chosen projects.
This year we’ve also overhauled our selection and training workshops as part of the feedback you gave us, so there has been lots of fresh content to design and deliver for you on campus. If you’ve been to one or more of those sessions recently, we hope you had a great time and we will ask for your feedback on those as part of mid-project feedback in December/January.
Seeing the rest of the network:
The great thing about Southampton Hub is that we don’t work alone — being part of the Student Hubs network means getting support, advice and lots of banter from the rest of the Student Hubs network, including our local sister, Winchester Hub.
In the past week Sophie and Fiona have been out of Southampton visiting Winchester Hub and attending the first Student Hubs Team Day of the year (see left), where we got to see the whole network. Hear more about how we’re going to collaborate with Winchester Hub next month below.
You can also check our August blog where we went to go visit Kingston Hub.
Planning for next month:
We’ve got loads of exciting things which we’re starting to plan for next month. These include:
- The first additional training session for ALL volunteers that Southampton Hub will be running this year, topics TBC;
- The Hampshire Hub Day for us and Winchester Hub, where our committees will get trained up and and enjoy some free pizza;
- Our One Community Forum, where we’re inviting guests from the University and the local community to come and tell us what the biggest issues in the city are and suggest how we can develop projects to tackle them;
- Planning for our Sport England programmes (Branch Up Active and Active) which will work with local young people about health and wellbeing;
- Workshops delivered in collaboration with Widening Participation for local Year 9 students based on our Empower mentoring programme;
- And planning for our next Advisory Board meeting, where our Board will discuss what’s next for Southampton Hub.
So it’s all go here at Southampton Hub! If you see us rushing about campus, say hello, and we’ll see you next month.
That’s it for October! Keep up to date with our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and website in the meantime for any updates, and we look forward to seeing you all in November.
