Student Hubs works with in partnership with UK universities to mainstream student social action. We deliver, and scale programmes for students where they can engage in a wide range of social action.
Our Projects enable university partners to work with us for a short period of time, with a clear delivery remit. They support our partners to quickly meet a strategic goal and evidence the value of our tried and tested approach. Projects may include a programme from our portfolio being delivered over a set time-frame, an activity or event delivered to support strategic needs or co-creation of a new activity or programme.
Our projects are part of our new external strategy. Read the external strategy to understand more about our approach in working in partnership with universities, our mechanisms of change for the students and communities we work with, and case studies of our partnerships.
University College Birmingham
In 2023 we worked with with University College Birmingham to facilitate a One Community Forum, bringing together community members, university staff and students to explore student social action in the city.
One Community Forum and Charity challenge with Leeds Conservatoire
We originally worked with Leeds Conservatoire in summer 2022 on a One Community Forum bringing community members, students and university staff together to explore how artistic citizenship could support knowledge exchange at the institution. Following on from this work in spring 2023 we supported the Conservatoire with a second project, delivering a Charity Challenge and further research on student engagement with social action.
How our projects work
Spark change through training and workshops – for students, staff and social impact organisations.
Research your communities through small projects resulting in key recommendations for your next steps.
Kickstart student and community engagement through medium projects including one-off events and activities.
Build upon learnings and existing engagement through large projects delivering a social action activity for 1-2 terms.
Embed social action through time-limited Hubs delivering targeted activities at your institution across 3 years.
Engage for Change with the Open University in Wales
In summer 2022 we worked with the Open University in Wales on a short term sustainability Project. The Project brought Cambridge Hub’s flagship Engage for Change to their students. We recruited and selected students to take part on the programme, delivering a series of training sessions to improve their critical awareness of the climate crisis, and empower them to ideate and implement sustainability ideas on campus. You can read more about the Engage for Change Project on our blog.
During the Engage for Change programme I broadened my knowledge of Climate and Sustainability issues, whilst also developing the skills necessary for project management. I achieved a greater confidence in speaking publicly and engaging with others on a subject that I had little confidence in.
