August has been a month of rest and relaxation, preparation and planning, and training for the Student Hubs staff team. The first week of the month we had an organisation-wide closure and we ended the month with Hub Holiday training (the virtual version!).
Summer Holiday Fun
The Student Hubs staff team had the first week of August off for some much needed rest and relaxation. There were a lot of trips to the seaside, long walks and delicious meals. We asked the staff team to share what they got up to.
“I went to Littlehampton on a short break, took a trip to Arundel Castle and found some gorgeous sunflowers and swans!” – Catherine, Southampton Hub Programmes Manager
“I got soaked traipsing around the Lake District whilst the rest of the country was in a heat wave” – Sim, Network Director
“I went to Cornwall for the week and visited the fantastic Eden Project, along with lots of beaches and local towns! Sophie F and I also met up but it was very wet so unfortunately we didn’t get a photo.” – Fiona, Sales Director
“I went to windy Holkham beach in Norfolk for a nice relaxing walk with a lovely friend!” – Susana, Cambridge Hub Manager
“I went to North Devon with my parents and saw lots of wildlife – including some very chill seals.” – Liz, Winchester Hub Manager
Hub Holiday
Annually at Student Hubs, Hub Holiday is a chance for the staff team to get together, review the outgoing year, do training and development and prepare for the year ahead. Instead of spending three days at a youth hostel, this year we held the event online across a whole week!
Some of the highlights include our Network Director Sim breaking down impact measurement for us all, a virtual beach party on Friday afternoon and Southampton Hub Manager Sophie F throwing us us a “Start of Year Party”. This was an opportunity for us all to reflect on volunteer recruitment and volunteer experience ahead of Freshers 2020.
Huge thanks to the Student Hubs Management Team for a great week!
Staff Alumni
To celebrate the launch of the Graduate Impact Survey, this month we have been sharing the stories of some of the wonderful Student Hubs alumni who are now part of our staff family. In case you missed it on our socials, we thought we’d share some of their journeys and reflections here.
If you enjoy reading their stories, why not share your own with us (and be in with the chance of winning a £50 Ethical Superstore voucher!) by completing the Student Hubs Graduate Impact Survey.
In the Spotlight
This month we want to put the Student Hubs Diversity and Inclusion team in the spotlight. The group is made up of Catherine, Liz, Sim and Susana.
They have been working hard all summer creating training sessions for staff and student volunteers, assessing the accessibility of our programmes and auditing our online presence. As part of their work, this month Student Hubs signed up as Disability Confident Committed – the first step towards becoming a Disability Confident Employer.
We are committed to being inclusive and accessible throughout the recruitment process and for our new and existing employees.
What to Look Out For
