We’re a week early this month as the staff team are out of office for the next two weeks having some much deserved rest and relaxation. However, before we go, we still want to share with you all of the great things December has brought. Happy holidays all, we will see you in the new year.
It’s All About Youth
This month our youth programmes have been thriving. LinkYouth at Kingston Hub hosted a taster workshop for young people to explore their creativity through songwriting and designing t-shirts. Meanwhile, Empower mentors in Southampton led sessions to get to know their mentees ahead of the weekly programme starting in the new year.
It has also been a busy month for Branch Up at Southampton Hub. Volunteers created activity packs for the 7-11 year olds around three themes: Around the World, Fantasy and Animals. As well as receiving the activity packs, each young person had a bag of holiday presents kindly donated by DAC Beachcroft (read more about their donation here). Our partner schools let us know that the children were ‘thrilled’ and ‘delighted’ to receive their gifts as you can see from the photos below.
A Christmas Quiz
On 3 December, as part of the Winter Fundraiser, the Student Hubs Alumni Ambassadors hosted a Christmas quiz, everyone was welcome. Can you name Santa’s reindeers? Did you know the average Brit eats 27 mince pies over Christmas? Have you heard of Krampus? That’s just a taste of what was covered in the four rounds.
A fun night was had by all who joined and we raised a fantastic £85 for Student Hubs. Keep your eyes peeled for other events and ways to get involved in the new year.
Cards for the Community
Our final piece of good news for you from December is the Christmas card drive LinkAges coordinators in Bristol arranged. They put drop off points and blank cards around campus, with instructions for people to write holiday messages to those who may be feeling isolated this winter. They also hosted socials to make cards and crafts.
At the beginning of the month 150 cards written by over 100 students made their way to our partner, St Monica Trust, to be given to the residents there.
In the Spotlight
This month we want to put all of our amazing donors in the spotlight. Our Winter Fundraiser ran from 1 December to 11 December and our supporters donated a total of £1857 to the Student Hubs network. Thank you all for getting involved and helping us achieve this. If you are interested in donating more regularly you can read more about our donor offer here.
We also want to give a bonus spotlight to our Sales Director Fiona for coordinating the fundraiser. You can read Fiona’s reflections here.
