April has been a reflective month for us at Student Hubs as our projects are coming to an end, we are starting to focus on the next part of our project work – measuring impact and improving our activities.
Litter Picking in Bristol
Bristol Hub ran a litter picking activity on the cycle path between Bristol and Bath, as part of the Great British Spring Clean. The Great British Spring Clean is the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign. Over this activity, 5 volunteers collected around 3 bags of litter from the cycle path.
Branch Up in Southampton
This month, our Southampton Hub branch delivered their Branch Up Residential at Tile Barn Outdoor Centre in the New Forest. The schedule for the residential was packed with activities for young people including rock climbing and archery. As part of the residential, our volunteers and young people played board games and ran 2 movie nights to watch Ratatouille and Brave. Overall, 8 young people took part in this residential.
In the Spotlight
We are putting the Social Innovation Programme in the spotlight this month. This month, Bristol Hub wrapped up their Social Innovation Programme with a Showcase. They welcomed representatives from their partners; Changes Bristol, South Bristol Youth, Unseen and Catalyse Change. Changes Bristol created a brief looking into the best ways to encourage refugees and people of colour to take part in the services Changes Bristol offers. South Bristol Youth provided a brief exploring the needs of young people and how their education can be supported through social media. On the other hand, Unseen’s and Catalyse Change’s briefs focused on supporting their fundraising in different ways. Overall, our Changes Bristol team was the winner and South Bristol Youth team received the Best Slides Award. Two students, Anwene from the Unseen team and Jhuliana from the Changes Bristol team received the Outstanding Presenters Awards. Finally, a special thanks to Bristol’s incredible partner Burges Salmon for making this programme possible and their generosity.
