March Hub Update: AGM, Awards and Project Feedback
March has been a busy month for Southampton Hub as we have finished projects, brought in a new committee, held our Sustainability Conference, celebrated the year’s successes and started thinking ahead for after the Easter break.
AGM
On Wednesday 7 March, we elected six students into roles within the executive committee. These include: President Laura Barr, Communications Officer Melissa Camargo, Schools Plus Coordinator Zemzem Sonmez, Code Plus Coordinator Dani Anthony, Branch Up Coordinator Megan Evans and BioCycle Coordinator Corin Holloway. Congratulations to all who were voted in!
The roles of Vice President, LinkAges Coordinator, Local Action Coordinator, Sustainability Coordinator and Empower Coordinator are still open and will be voted on at the next joint committee meeting on Wednesday 18 April. University of Southampton students can apply for any of our open positions here.
Sustainability Conference
On Saturday 10 March, Sustainability and International Development Coordinators Holly and Georgia ran our annual conference in Building 7 of Highfield Campus. They had guest speakers from across Hampshire and Sussex, and spent the day hearing about sustainability, the environment, and meeting local organisations who make a difference in our community. Thanks to all the guest speakers, stall holders, attendees and Holly and Georgia for running such a successful event!
Southampton Hub Awards
On Wednesday 14 March we held the first ever Southampton Hub Volunteer Awards! Sponsored by Teach First, the event celebrated the volunteers who make our projects happen, with 29 nominees and 13 winners overall.
Thanks to over 50 volunteers who came along and we’re looking forward to hosting more social events for volunteers in the next academic year.
Feedback and case studies
After Easter, we need all of our volunteers to fill out end of project feedback. This feedback is essential for us to:
- Review our projects and make them better;
- Get an insight into how the projects are benefitting you AND our beneficiaries;
- Show our funders the amazing impact our projects create in the local community.
So all volunteers: keep an eye on your emails, as we want you to contribute, come along to reflection sessions to think about how you can take your Hub experience into job hunting, and be part of case studies for the Hub.
That’s it for March! Keep up to date with our Facebook, Twitter and our website in the meantime for any updates, and we look forward to seeing you all in April.
