May Update: New Committee, End of Term and Impact Highlights
We’re finally approaching the end of the academic year, and what a year it has been! Here’s what we’ve been doing this month.
New Committee:
We have elected the majority of our new committee, and have kicked off the year with training about fundraising and annual planning. During the annual planning session, our committee got to think about how they wanted to develop their programmes for next year, lead the committee and plan exciting fundraising and volunteering activities for the next year.
We’re excited to see them take the lead during Freshers’ Week for 2019–20!
We are still looking for a Communications Officer to join our committee for 2019–20, so if you want experience in the below, this opportunity is for you!
You will support staff and students to communicate to students about key events, manage our social media, write weekly newsletters to go out to 260+ subscribers, create new campaigns, work with SUSU to promote Southampton Hub and seek out new advertising leads with external organisations.
Apply on our website to get involved now.
Branch Up and Branch Up Active:
We have been finishing up delivery for the year, which has included fantastic days out from Branch Up and Branch Up Active, our programmes for 7–11 year olds who are supported by university student mentors for activity days.
Branch Up went to the Common for a sports day and Go Ape this month, which the children and volunteers really enjoyed. Branch Up Active have also been busy with activities doing zumba, bouldering and Chinese Kickboxing this week!
End of year feedback highlights:
As it is the end of term, we’re currently collecting end of year feedback from all students involved in our programmes this year. We’ve already started reviewing some of the feedback, and here’s what our volunteers had to say:
- The young people [engaging with Schools Plus] seem to genuinely find it really valuable. It was really engaging for both the young people and volunteers. — Schools Plus volunteer
- Being able to make a positive difference on a young person’s life [was the highlight of the programme]. — Empower volunteer
- I enjoy [LinkAges] a lot and I think I have learnt a lot about how to communicate with people from different walks of life. It is so fulfilling to see that they enjoy having me in the session and they are happy about that. — LinkAges volunteer
- [The highlight of BioCycle] is being out on the bike in the sun doing something good. — BioCycle volunteer
Remember if you haven’t done your end of year feedback to fill out the form here, we’ll be doing final phone calls with anyone who hasn’t filled it in during the w/c 3rd June!
That’s it for May! Keep up to date with our Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and website in the meantime for any updates, and we look forward to seeing you all in June.
